Why does my rice turn out mushy?

The most common reason why rice turns out mushy is because the water to rice ratio is off. The general rule of thumb is to use one cup of water for every cup of rice. If you use too much water, the rice will become mushy and overcooked. Additionally, it’s important to use the right type of rice — different types of rice require different amounts of water and cooking times. If you’re using the wrong type of rice, it can also lead to a mushy texture. Finally, it’s important to follow the instructions on the rice packaging and let the rice rest for at least 10 minutes after cooking.
