Is shampoo a detergent or soap?

Shampoo is a type of detergent. Detergents are different from soaps in that they contain synthetic ingredients rather than natural ingredients like fats and oils that are used to make soap. Detergents are also better at removing greasy and oily dirt from surfaces, which is why they are the preferred cleaning agent for cleaning hair. Soap, on the other hand, is primarily used for washing the body.
