When do reflux symptoms peak in babies?

Reflux symptoms in babies tend to peak when they are between 1 and 4 months old. During this period, they may experience frequent spitting up, arching of the back and crying. As they get older, these symptoms usually become less frequent and severe. In some cases, babies may still experience reflux symptoms until they are up to one year old.

How long does a reflux flare up last in babies?

It is difficult to give an exact answer as the length of a reflux flare up can vary from baby to baby. Generally, the flare up can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. During a flare up, the baby may experience increased discomfort due to the reflux and may vomit more frequently. It is important to consult with your pediatrician to determine the best course of treatment for your baby.

Does reflux peak at 3 months?

While reflux is most common in infants, it can occur at any age. Generally, reflux peaks at 3 months of age due to the fact that the lower esophageal sphincter is not yet fully developed and the baby is lying down much more frequently than older infants. However, reflux can still occur in older infants and even toddlers as the lower esophageal sphincter continues to mature.
