What medicine makes you sleepy?

There are a number of medications that can cause drowsiness and make you feel sleepy. These include antihistamines, such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and hydroxyzine (Vistaril); muscle relaxants, such as carisoprodol (Soma); and sedative-hypnotics, such as zolpidem (Ambien) and eszopiclone (Lunesta). Some antidepressants and antipsychotics can also have sedative effects. It is important to talk to your doctor before taking any medication that may cause drowsiness.
