How do you know if your child is having difficulty breathing?

If your child is having difficulty breathing, they may display some common signs and symptoms, such as rapid or shallow breathing, wheezing, coughing, chest pain, or difficulty speaking. Other signs to look out for include a bluish tinge to the skin, difficulty eating, difficulty sleeping, difficulty concentrating, and/or fatigue. If your child displays any of these symptoms, seek medical attention as soon as possible.

If you suspect that your child is not breathing properly, you should seek medical attention immediately. You can also look for signs that indicate your child is having difficulty breathing, such as shortness of breath, labored breathing, difficulty speaking, or chest retractions. Be aware that some children may not show any signs of difficulty breathing, so if you are concerned, it is best to seek medical help.

How do you check a child’s breathing?

To check a child’s breathing, place your ear near their mouth and nose and listen for breaths. You can also place two fingers on the child’s chest and feel for the rise and fall of their chest as they breathe. If you can’t hear or feel any breaths, the child may not be breathing and you should call 911 immediately.
